Today is Good Friday and Ed's off from work and Sam's off with Easter Vacation for a week. The original plan was for us to go to King's Canyon for a short holiday but because we decided at the last minute, all accommodation was full and so, we abandoned the idea. Thought it'll be good to just drive down to SFO and have a leisurely stroll around. Then, Ed suggested that we visit the California Academy of Sciences (they have 3 museums in 1 place ie. The Planetarium, The Natural History Museum & The Aquarium) coz it has just been reopened after being closed for renovation. We left around 9.45am after a nice breakfast of roti canai with beef rendang. Stopped at Broadway to go shop for wine at Weimax and bought 10 bottles (sound like an alcoholic yet??) coz they were all on sale and this shop is special coz it carries the kind of wine brands that we like. After that, we continued on our journey.
As with all things SFO and like any typical city, the GPS took us on a whirlwind ride around the Golden Gate Park and upon reaching the Academy, gasped at the long queue that's before us. Sam and I went down to check the waiting time while Ed was supposed to go find a parking spot. Before I could even asked, Ed called and said we should come back some other day with prepaid tickets (even then, members' line was pretty long) and maybe, we can go visit Alcatraz instead. So, both of us walked back to the drop off point and off we go to Pier 39. Found out that Alcatraz was at Pier 33 and so, we had a nice leisurely walk (about 15 mins) there and happily stand in queue. After 15 mins have passed, the line was moving slowly before we heard the announcement that the tickets for today (Fri) and Sat have been sold out and what we are queueing for right now is for tickets on Sunday. OK, that got us scrambling out of the queue coz I told Ed I am not going to come on Sunday as I want to be in church for Easter service. So, again, we had to abandon the idea. Alcatraz will have to wait for some other time, sigh...
As it was nearly lunch time, we decided to try out a new Peruvian tapas place called Fresca. As with SFO, parking is hard to come by. We had to walk like 2.5 blocks from where we parked to the shop. But, it was worth it as the food was, ummm... delicious. I had beef with rice, Sam had chicken while Ed had kobe beef burgers. The rice was good and tasted a little like nasi lemak. Sam's chicken was pretty ordinary while Ed's burger was yummy (kobe beef, what can go wrong?). But the best part was the desert ie. the Mango cheesecake. It was to die for. Forget calories coz if I hadn't eaten so much of my lunch (and yet cannot finish everything and had it boxed to go), I would've gone for a 2nd helping. But the stomach couldn't contain anymore and so, the 2nd helping will have to wait for another opportunity when we're back in SFO again. Now that everyone's satiated, we embark on our drive home and we reached home about 5.10pm.
A day that didn't start off too well coz we didn't get to visit the places we wanted to but it ended well as all of us weren't stressed out that the plan didn't go as well as it should. Lesson learnt: Next time, gotta plan before we go anywhere coz we keep forgetting that US is a huge country and when everyone's off, everywhere's full (even the restrooms, there was a long line, hahaha).
